Ember Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 14, 2026

Ember ("Ember," "the app," "we," "us," or "our") is a personal acid reflux and GERD tracker. This policy explains what information the app handles, how it is stored, and the choices you have. It applies to the Ember iOS app published by Orion Interstellar. We built Ember to be private by design: you are the only person who can see your data. We do not have accounts, we do not run servers that receive your data, and we do not sell, rent, or share your information.

Summary

  • Everything you log stays on your device and, if you enable it, in your own private Apple iCloud account.
  • We (the developer) cannot access your health information.
  • Ember has no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party trackers.
  • We do not sell or share your data with anyone.

Information Ember handles

Ember only stores information you choose to enter, so that the app can show you patterns over time. This may include:

  • Meals and foods: meal names, foods and ingredients, and habit factors (for example, "ate late" or "lay down after").
  • Symptoms and check-ins: reflux severity, symptoms you select, and notes.
  • Medications: medications you add and when you mark them taken (this is a personal log; Ember does not provide medical or dosing advice).
  • Antacid use and standalone reflux episodes.
  • Body information you optionally enter, such as weight and height.
  • Your name and app preferences (for example reminder and appearance settings), stored on your device.

This information is health and wellness data, which is sensitive. Ember treats it accordingly and never transmits it to us.

Ember does not access your contacts, photos, precise location, microphone, camera, or Apple Health data, and it does not use advertising identifiers.

Where your data is stored

  • On your device. Your log is saved locally on your iPhone or iPad.
  • In your private iCloud (optional). If iCloud sync/backup is enabled on your device, your data is stored in your own private iCloud account using Apple's iCloud/CloudKit service so it can back up and sync across your Apple devices. This data lives in your personal iCloud storage; the developer has no access to it. Apple processes this data under Apple's Privacy Policy and iCloud terms.

Ember does not send your health data to the developer or to any third-party server.

What we do not collect

  • No account creation, sign-in, email, or password.
  • No analytics, usage tracking, or crash-reporting SDKs.
  • No advertising and no advertising identifiers (IDFA).
  • No selling or sharing of personal data with data brokers or advertisers.

Notifications

If you turn on check-in reminders, Ember schedules local notifications on your device. These are generated on your device and are not sent through our servers.

Links to other resources

Ember may link to reputable third-party educational resources (for example MedlinePlus, NIDDK, and Mayo Clinic). These sites are operated by others and have their own privacy policies; we are not responsible for their content or practices.

Data retention and deletion

You are in control of your data:

  • You can edit or delete individual meals, episodes, medications, weight entries, and other items directly in the app at any time.
  • Deleting the app removes the data stored on that device. Data stored in your private iCloud can be removed by deleting the app's iCloud data in your device Settings → [your name] → iCloud, or by turning iCloud off for Ember.

Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.

Children's privacy

Ember is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your rights

Because your information is stored only on your own devices and in your own iCloud account, you can access, correct, export (via the in-app report), or delete it yourself at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). If you have questions about your rights, contact us using the details below.

Security

Your data is protected by your device's security (such as your passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID) and, when iCloud is enabled, by Apple's iCloud security. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure, but because your data is not transmitted to us, its protection is tied to your device and Apple account security.

Medical disclaimer

Ember is a personal tracking tool to help you and your healthcare provider spot patterns. It does not diagnose conditions and does not provide medical advice or medication dosing. Always talk to a qualified healthcare professional about your care and about any persistent or severe symptoms.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" above and post the updated policy at this URL.
